I haven’t been able to make a meditation habit stick, as much as I would like to. But I have spent the last month beginning my days with morning prayer from my Book of Hours — extra special because the theologian who wrote it was one of my father’s best friends. I remember delightedly browsing the used bookstore he and his partner owned when I was very young, and they always sent the best books as birthday and Christmas gifts.
I’ll admit, I sometimes rush through, watching the clock, anxious to finish the self-imposed ritual and have a little time with my tea and a novel before a tony voice starts chattering upstairs. But on the good days, I can left myself sink into it, clearing my mind and finding a moment of calm before the busy day begins.

This morning I searched for beautiful sentences. I didn’t find any. I popped in to your blog, and you had a link on beautiful sentences! One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a masterpiece, love that book.
Our neurons must be in sync, Priscilla! I got all teary reading through that list, which made me feel a little silly — but they were so beautiful!
I love meditation, but I can see how it’s not for everyone. I think the important thing is to find something that lets your mind be quiet at least once a day.
